ROLLA, Mo. -- For the third consecutive weekend, the Northwest Missouri State baseball team recorded a three-game series sweep. This weekend, the 'Cats took care of Missouri-Rolla, winning game three, 12-4, Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Bearcats move to 28-15 on the season, 14-7 in the MIAA. The Bearcat offense got going early, when lead-off batter Cameron Dodd (Jr., Menteca, Calif.) came around to score on an RBI double by Tristan Stewart (Fr., Crystal Lake, Ill.) to give Northwest a 1-0 lead. After Rolla tied the game in the bottom of the second, the 'Cats took the lead back by plating two runs in their half of the third. After Dodd worked a lead-off walk, a ground out and a wild pitch moved him to third, and he came around to score on a ground out off the bat of Matt Coons (So., Dearborn, Mo.). Brad Schwarz (Sr., Johnston, Iowa) then stepped to the plate and crushed his ninth home run over the left-field wall to give Northwest a 3-1 lead. After Rolla scored one run in the third and two in the fourth to take the lead, the Bearcat offense took over for good. With one out and a runner on, Schwarz came to bat and drilled his second home run of the day to left field to give Northwest a lead it would not relinquish. It was Schwarz's second multi-homer game of the season. The 'Cats scored five runs in the sixth and two runs in the ninth en route to the 12-4 win. Jeremy Tapps (Jr., Des Moines, Iowa) came on in relief in the fourth inning and pitched 3.1 innings of scoreless ball to improve his record to 5-2. Tapps allowed only three his, struck out three and did not walk a single Miner batter. |
