MARYVILLE, Mo. -- The Northwest Missouri State baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Rockhurst Wednesday afternoon at Bearcat Field. The Bearcats lost game one, 14-7, and the team's comeback in game two fell short, as the 'Cats fell, 7-6.

The 'Cats jumped on the board first in game one, taking advantage of two Hawk errors to score four runs. Kyle Gallagher (Jr., Bellevue, Neb.) reached on an errors by the left fielder, which brought home two runs. Northwest plated a single run in the fourth, but the Hawks started warming up in the fifth.

Rockhurst scored three runs in the fifth and three again in the sixth to make the score 7-5 heading into the bottom of the sixth. The Bearcats put together a small rally to plate two and tie the score at 7-7 heading into the seventh. Then the Hawks went off for seven runs in their half of the seventh en route to the 14-7 win.

The Bearcats jumped on the board first in game two, pushing across a single run on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Matt Coons (So., Dearborn, Mo.). Then the wheels fell off for the 'Cats in the second. The defense committed four errors, which led to four runs for Rockhurst, but the 'Cats refused to go quietly.

In the bottom of the second, a bases-loaded single by David Dugan (Sr., Kansas City, Mo.) brought home two. That was followed by a sacrifice fly by Brad Schwarz (Sr., Johnston, Iowa), and two batters later, an error brought home the fourth run of the inning and put the 'Cats back on top, 5-4.

The Hawks scored single runs in each of the next three innings, while the Bearcats could only manage one run that came in the fifth. The Bearcats had one last shot in the bottom of the seventh. With one out, the 'Cats put the tying and winning run at first and second, but were unable to move them up, as they fell, 7-6.
