JOPLIN, Mo. -- After winning game one Friday night, the Northwest Missouri State baseball team completed a three-game sweep of Missouri Southern by taking two Saturday afternoon. The 'Cats took game one, 12-0, and game two, 3-1. Northwest now stands at 21-12, 7-6 in the MIAA.

Game one was completely dominated by the 'Cats. The Northwest offense pounded out 14 hits and scored 12 runs. The Bearcats headed into the ninth with a 6-0 lead and tacked on six insurance runs. Northwest put together four hits and three walks and took advantage of a wild pitch to extend their lead.

Not only was the Northwest offense impressive, but starter David Dugan (Sr., Kansas City, Mo.) put on quite a display. Dugan pitched his third complete game of the season, going nine innings, allowing just one hit, no runs and striking out nine. Dugan's record now stands at 6-0 on the season.

Game two was much closer. Missouri Southern drew first blood, pushing across one run in the bottom of the third to take their first lead of the day. The Bearcats were held scoreless until their half of the sixth inning.

A one-out single by Brad Schwarz (Sr., Johnston, Iowa) got things started for the 'Cats. After the Lions recorded another out, freshman Tristan Stewart (Crystal Lake, Ill.) crushed his first collegiate home run to give the 'Cats a 2-1 lead. Following Stewart's home run, Seth Evans (Jr., Lenox, Iowa) doubled and advanced to third on a wild pitch and then scored on a throwing error by the Lion catcher for the Bearcats' third run of the inning.

Jeremy Teter (Sr., Macon, Mo.) improved his record to 4-1 on the season. Teter pitched five innings, allowing just one run and striking out five. Brett Bognar (Jr., St. Charles, Mo.) pitched pitched the final two innings of the game to pick up his first save of the season.
