Bearcats Down Golden Eagles in Snowy Maryville
WP:JR Servatius (1-0)
Extra Base Hits
MARYVILLE, Mo. -- The Northwest Missouri State baseball team overcame snowy conditions to defeat Minnesota-Crookston, 13-1, Tuesday afternoon at Bearcat Field. Game two was cancelled due to the snow.
The Northwest offense came alive in the first game, pounding out 13 hits and taking advantage of four Golden Eagle errors on the day. The 'Cats scored in all six innings that they batted, and the offense got going early. The first inning was highlighted by a double steal, with Brad Schwarz (Sr., Johnston, Iowa) taking second, while Kyle Gallagher (Jr., Bellevue, Neb.) swiped home plate the score the second of three runs in the bottom of the first.
Ryley Westman (Fr., Smithville, Mo.) kicked off the second inning with a single and advanced to third when Marcus West (Jr., Kansas City, Mo.) reached on an error. West was then picked off first, but remained in the rundown long enough for Westman to cross home plate for the Bearcats' fourth run of the game.
After plating two runs in the third, the Bearcats pounded out two doubles and two singles to push across three more runs. Northwest would score another three runs in the fifth and a single run in the sixth en route to the 13-1 win.
Those 13 runs were more than enough for starter JR Servatius (Jr., Ottawa, Kan.), who pitched the Bearcats' second complete game in his first start of the season. In seven innings, Servatius allowed only five hits and one earned run, while striking out six and walking just two batters.
