This week in Bearcat Athletics

Softball hosts three separate doubleheaders, baseball plays a four-game set with Southwest Baptist in Maryville and football plays its annual spring game, this week in Bearcat Athletics.
The Bearcat softball team (18-8, 7-1 MIAA) hosts Nebraska-Omaha (29-5, 6-0 MIAA) on Tuesday afternoon in a battle for first-place in the conference. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. On Friday afternoon Northwest hosts Southwest Baptist (4-16, 2-8 MIAA) beginning at 2 p.m. and will finish up the week with its third doubleheader as the Bearcats play host to Central Missouri (20-12, 5-1 MIAA) at noon.
Northwest baseball (7-19, 6-14 MIAA) returns home after going 1-3 at Missouri Western last weekend. The Bearcats will play a doubleheader on Friday and Saturday with both days beginning at 1 p.m. Southwest Baptist comes into the four-game series with a 5-17 record and 4-16 in conference play.
The annual football spring game will also be held on Saturday. Football, along with baseball and softball will be a part of Northwest's "Spring Showcase." Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Bearcat Stadium. The game will feature 12 minute periods with a running clock except for the final two minutes of each half.
Northwest track and field will also compete this week. The Bearcats will be at two separate sites. The Northwest multi-event athletes will be heading to the Emporia State Multis on Thursday. Northwest will also be traveling to Fayette, Mo., on Saturday for the ASICS-Central Methodist Invitational.
The Bearcat tennis teams have a busy week as well. Tuesday night the Northwest women host Missouri Western, the Bearcats have won the last 27 matches with Western dating back to 1985. On Wednesday afternoon both the men and women will host Washburn at 2 p.m. On Friday both teams will head to Lawton, Okla., for a pair of matches with Cameron and Incarnate Word. Finally, on Saturday the Bearcat women will face Central Oklahoma at 10 a.m.
Northwest golf rounds out the week with a Friday-Saturday tournament in Pella, Iowa at the Central College Invite. The Bearcats also finish up the Green and Gold Shootout on Tuesday afternoon in St. Joseph.
