This Week in Bearcat Athletics
The Northwest Missouri State men's and women's basketball teams have a pair of MIAA games this week and track and field will travel to the Central Missouri Relays on Friday and Saturday, this week in Bearcat Athletics.
Northwest will host Washburn on Wednesday in a doubleheader beginning at 5:30 p.m. Fans who bring any other college's t-shirt besides Northwest to the game, will receive a Bearcat t-shirt in exchange (only one shirt per person). The second game of the week will be in Hays, Kan., as the Bearcats travel to Fort Hays State in a men's and women's doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
The Bearcat men (4-12, 2-10 MIAA) are coming off a pair of losses last week to conference-leading Missouri Southern and Emporia State. DeShaun Cooper set a career-high on Wednesday against the Lions with 29 points. Cooper averaged 26 points a game during the week. The Washburn men are currently 11-5 overall and 8-4 in the MIAA. The eighth-ranked Fort Hays men are 16-2 and 10-2 in the MIAA.
The Northwest women (14-2, 10-2 MIAA) are coming off of two wins last week at home over Missouri Southern and 11th-ranked Emporia State. Abby Henry averaged 22 points a game last week, including a record-tying 16-for-17 free-throw shooting performance against Emporia State.
No. 6 Washburn (14-2, 10-2 MIAA) is in a tie for first with Northwest for the MIAA lead. The Fort Hays women are 7-9 and 4-8 in the league. The Bearcats are on a current 10-game winning streak.
The Bearcat indoor track and field team will travel to Warrensburg, Mo., on Friday and Saturday for the Central Missouri Mule Relays. The women's event will be on Friday, with the men competing on Saturday.
Northwest is coming off a competition last week at the Nebraska Wesleyan Invite. Taylor Overmiller placed second in the 800-meters with a time of 1:56.01. Rachel Lewis finished second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.93 seconds.
