Akin, Stadler Named MIAA Players of the Week
Northwest Missouri State sophomore setter Laira Akin and senior punter Michael Stadler were named MIAA Specialists of the Week in their respective sports for the week running September 20-26.
Akin set a career-high on Friday night against Pittsburg State with 55 assists in the match. Akin also recorded her second double-double of the season in the win with 13 digs. Akin added two kills and a block assist against the Gorillas. On Saturday against SBU, Akin had 40 assists to go along with her four digs, one ace, two solo blocks and five block assists in the win. For the weekend Akin averaged 10.56 assists per set to go along with eight total blocks.
Stadler averaged 41 yards on five punts, including a long of 51 in Northwest's 44-10 victory over Truman on Saturday. He sent one punt out-of-bounds at the 9-yard line, had another one downed on the 1-yard line, and allowed no return attempts. Stadler is Northwest's career leader in punting average with a 40.2 average.
