White Earns NCAA Degree
Morris White, director of athletic marketing, promotions and licensing at Northwest Missouri State University recently graduated from the NCAA's 2010 Leadership Institute for Ethnic Minority Males and Females.
White, who also manages the corporate sponsorship and internship programs, and 22 other professionals, attended four weekend development sessions and a week-long workshop during the 12-month program with the purpose of expanding their experience in leadership roles.
The courses included leadership and administration, human resource management, finance and fundraising, booster, public and media relations and inner game of leadership sessions.
"The opportunity to participate in this program was tremendous," said White. "My classmates and I have grown both professionally and personally. The greatest benefits of this program are the relationships I've developed with my classmates. They are truly a terrific group of people and there is no doubt that we all will keep in touch as well progress in our respective areas.
"I would like to thank the NCAA and the Northwest athletic department for allowing me to be part of the 2010 Ethnic Minority Leadership Institute."
The NCAA Leadership Institute, which established its educational program in 2001, provides support for the shortage of senior-level ethnic minority females and males in athletics.
In addition to completing the Leadership Institute, White was a facilitator for the 2009-10 NCAA Division II Leadership Academy. The academy engages a diverse representation of student-athletes, coaches, administrators and faculty members in leadership education to enhance self-awareness and facilitate partnerships that will affect progress on campuses and conferences throughout Division II, and beyond the collegiate realm. He is the only participant to attend the academy as a student-athlete, administrator and facilitator.
White acquired his bachelor's degree in psychology with a double minor in speech communication and health education in April of 2005 from Northwest and is currently pursuing a master's degree in athletic administration. He is also a member of the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA). Under his leadership, the athletic marketing and promotions department has garnered numerous national awards in each of the last five years for outstanding achievement in marketing and promotions.
A native of St. Louis, White was a four-year letterwinner at wide receiver and kick returner for the Bearcat football team from 2001-04. In his senior season as team captain, he helped lead Northwest to a No. 3 national ranking and an appearance in the Division II NCAA Quarterfinals.
