The Northwest Missouri State football team plays in the NCAA Division II semifinals, both basketball teams have a pair of road games and indoor track begins its season this week in Bearcat Athletics.

The Bearcat football team (12-1) will travel to Duluth, Minn., on Saturday night for a showdown with the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs (13-0). It is Northwest's sixth consecutive trip to the semifinals and the first meeting with Duluth since the 2008 championship game, where the Bearcats lost 21-14. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. and the game will be televised on CBS College Sports.

The Bearcats advanced to the semifinals with a 37-20 win over Central Missouri on Saturday in Bearcat Stadium. Blake Bolles accounted for four touchdowns in the victory, Jordan Simmons caught a career-high nine passes and the defense held the Mules to 261 yards of total offense as Northwest led from start to finish.

The men's and women's basketball teams will finish their four-game road trips to start MIAA play this week as they travel to Pittsburg State on Wednesday and Nebrasa-Omaha on Saturday. The Bearcat men (2-4, 0-2 MIAA) were defeated last week 70-65 by Emporia State and 74-67 by Washburn. DeShaun Cooper averaged 16.5 points and six assists in the two losses.

The Pitt State men come into the contest at 5-1 and 1-1 in the MIAA, Nebraska-Omaha, like Northwest is 0-2 in the conference and is 3-3 overall. Both games will start at approximately 7:30 after the women's game is finished.

The Bearcat women lost both of their contests to top-10 teams last week. Northwest fell 77-67 to No. 10 Emporia State on Wednesday and 82-79 to fourth-ranked Washburn on Saturday. Abby Henry averaged 19.5 points in last week's games and Shelly Martin scored a season-high 21 in the game against the Lady Blues. Both of the games will tip-off at 5:30 p.m. The Pittsburg State women are 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the MIAA, while the Maverick women are 3-3 and 0-2 in the league.

The indoor track and field season will begin this weekend as Northwest will send athletes to two separate meets. The Bearcats will compete at the Iowa state Holiday Preview on Friday in Ames, Iowa and at the Doane meet in Crete, Neb. These will be the only meets for the Bearcats before second semester.
