Volleyball has a busy slate this week playing three games in conference, cross country travels to the Arkansas Chili Pepper Festival and football goes for win 42 in a row this week in Bearcat Athletics.

The sixth-ranked Bearcat football team (4-1, 4-0 MIAA) looks to win its 42 straight MIAA game this Saturday as Northwest hosts Emporia State (5-2, 3-2 MIAA) at 1 p.m. from Bearcat Stadium. Northwest is coming off a 49-21 victory on Saturday over Missouri Southern. Jake Soy caught eight passes for a career-high 159 yards and two scores against the Lions. Blake Bolles passed for 375 yards and four touchdowns.

The Bearcats defeated Emporia State last season 45-12. Bolles tossed four touchdowns against the Hornets last season. Northwest outgained Emporia 514 to 268 in the win.

The Northwest volleyball team has three games scheduled on the conference slate for this week. The Bearcats (8-7, 4-3 MIAA) will travel to Missouri Western on Wednesday and will head to 10th-ranked Truman on Friday evening before hosting Missouri Southern on Saturday night at 5 p.m.

The Bearcats are coming off a split last week as Northwest swept Nebraska-Omaha on Tuesday and pushed No. 8 Central Missouri to five sets before bowing out. The win at UNO is just the second time the Bearcats have won in Omaha and the first time since 1980. The five sets with Central Missouri is the first time the Jennies have been pushed to five sets so far this season.

The Northwest cross country squads will travel to the Arkansas Chili Pepper Festival on Saturday in Fayetteville, Ark. The men will run first at 9:45 a.m. with the women beginning around 10:30 a.m. The Bearcats had last week off and competed last at the Emporia Planet Sub Invite on Oct. 1. The Bearcat women finished in first place out of 22 teams at Emporia. Angela Adams was the top collegiate finisher, running a time of 17:57.27. The Northwest men finished in third out of 25 teams. T.R. Pursell finished 23rd to lead the Bearcats with a time of 26:10.21, despite taking a wrong turn on the course.

Northwest golf will be competing at the Avila Invite in Grandview, Mo., Monday and Tuesday. The two-day tournament will be the Bearcats' final of the 2010 fall season. The Northwest soccer team also has a pair of games this week as the Bearcats host Missouri Western on Thursday at 3 p.m. from Bearcat Pitch and will end the week at No. 2 Central Missouri on Saturday night.
