Northwest volleyball returns to action, golf looks to continue its fantastic run at the Bearcat Fall Classic and football travels to Joplin, Mo., looking to tie the MIAA record for most consecutive conference wins this week in Bearcat athletics.

After a week hiatus the Bearcat volleyball team (7-6, 3-2 MIAA) returns to the court this week with a pair of MIAA matches. First, Northwest travels to Nebraska-Omaha (12-6, 2-4 MIAA) on Tuesday evening for a match at 7 p.m. The Bearcats return home for Friday night's match with No. 7 Central Missouri (13-3, 6-1 MIAA). Match-time is set to begin at 7 p.m. in Bearcat Arena.

Northwest is coming off back-to-back wins on Sept. 24-25 over Pittsburg State and Southwest Baptist, pushing the Bearcats' record to over .500 for the first time this season. Setter Laira Akin was named MIAA Specialist of the Week last Monday for her performance against the Gorillas and "purple" Bearcats.

The Northwest golf team is scorching hot right now. The Bearcats have won their last three meets and are currently competing at the Nebraska-Omaha Fall Classic looking to make it four consecutive victories. Freshman Cassie Lowell won last week's tournament at the Ottawa Invitational shooting a program-record 154 over the two days. The win was Lowell's second victory in a row.

Northwest will be hosting the Bearcat Fall Classic at Mozingo Golf Course on Thursday and Friday this week.

The sixth-ranked Bearcat football team travels to face Missouri Southern this Saturday night. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. Northwest is going for a MIAA record-tying 41st consecutive conference win against the Lions. Northwest defeated Southern last season in Maryville 52-6. Quarterbacks Blake Bolles and Blake Christopher combined to go 31-of-42 for 453 yards and six touchdown passes.

Northwest (3-1, 3-0 MIAA) is coming off a 42-0 victory over rival Missouri Western last weekend. The game marked the first time that Northwest has shut out the Griffons in a game and it is the first time Missouri Western has been blanked since 1997.

The Northwest soccer team will also be in action on Saturday as the Bearcats host Truman at 2 p.m. from Bearcat Pitch. Cross country is off this week.
