Fans Are Encouraged to Wear White to Thursday's Football Game

The top-ranked Northwest Missouri State football team begins its title-defense, Bearcat soccer begins the 2010 season and the Rinehart Era begins in Omaha this week in Bearcat athletics.

The No. 1 ranked Bearcat football team hosts 14th-ranked Texas A&M-Kingsville at 6 p.m. Thursday. The game has been declared a "White Out" so all fans are encouraged to wear white shirts to improve upon Bearcat Stadium's already fantastic home field advantage. The Bearcats are 2-0 all-time against Kingsville. Northwest defeated the Javelinas 34-14 in the second round of the 2004 NCAA playoffs in the most recent contest.

The Northwest soccer team will hit the pitch with its season opener on Friday. The Bearcats will travel to Wichita, Kan., to face the Newman Jets in a match beginning at 7 p.m. Northwest's home opener will be Sunday as the Bearcats host Northeastern State at 1 p.m. at Bearcat Pitch.

Northwest is coming off of a program-record 11-win season in 2009. The Bearcats defeated both Newman and Northeastern State last season 1-0 and 2-0, respectively.

The Bearcat volleyball team led by first-year coach Jessica Rinehart travels to the Nebraska-Omaha Tournament this weekend for a pair of games on both Friday and Saturday. Northwest will open the tournament with Adams State at 10 a.m. and faces Midwestern State at 2:30 p.m. to finish day one. Day two pits Northwest against Newman at 11:45 a.m. and the Bearcats will face ninth-ranked Minnesota-Duluth at 4:15 p.m. to end the tournament.

Both the men's and women's tennis teams begin their 2010 campaigns and will be participating at the Washburn Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The teams are under the direction of 27-year head coach Mark Rosewell.
