Baseball, Women's Golf Receiving Votes in This Week's National Polls
MARYVILLE, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State baseball and women's golf both earned mention in their respective coaches' polls released earlier this week. It's the first mention for both teams this season and the first in program history for the women's golf team.
Northwest baseball went 3-1 against Fort Hays State last weekend, who was receiving votes in last week's Collegiate Baseball Magazine/ABCA poll, to earn a place on one ballot in the nationwide voting. It's the first national mention for the Bearcats since March 24, 2008, when Northwest received six votes.
The Bearcats are one of four MIAA teams named in the poll. Northwest begins the 2009 home schedule against No. 9 Central Missouri in a four-game series this weekend.
Women's golf earned a spot on one ballot of the first Golf World/NGCA spring poll of 2009. The Bearcats finished with four top-five finishes in the fall 2008 season and lowered their team score by 89 strokes during the course of the season.
Nebraska-Omaha led three of the five MIAA women's golf programs in the rankings at No. 15. Truman received one vote along with the Bearcats.
Northwest begins the spring schedule March 29-30 at the Missouri Western Invitational before culminating with the inaugural MIAA women's golf championship at Shoal Creek Golf Club in Kansas City, Mo., April 19-21.
