Northwest Marketing Boasts Four NACMA Awards

MARYVILLE, Mo.-Four Northwest Missouri State athletic marketing pieces from the 2009-10 season were recognized by the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) as "Best of the Year" Awards at the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) convention held June 19-25 at the Marriott Hotel in Anaheim, Calif. It's the fourth consecutive year Northwest has earned NACMA awards.

Initiated in 2003, the NACMA awards program honors outstanding achievement in marketing and promotions. Awards are presented in 16 categories with each category divided into three groups based upon school size and conference affiliations to promote fairness. Northwest competes in group three which is comprised of all NCAA Division II and III institutions along with NAIA school and junior colleges across the country. More than 650 entries were received for the 2009-10 academic year.

"Our goal each year is to be among the best in the nation at what we do and I'm pleased we continue to excel and raise the bar," said Morris White, Northwest's Director of Athletic Marketing, Promotions and Licensing. "To have been recognized for the fourth consecutive year is very gratifying."

Since 2004, Northwest has been one of just six institutions in group three who have earned 13 or more NACMA awards.

Bearcat promotional pieces recognized include:

First place (Gold) - Video Board Segment: awarded for the video introduction of the football team played prior to the team taking the field
Second place (Silver) - Promotional/Schedule Poster: awarded for the design of the Bearcat football poster
Second place (Silver) - Electronic Promotion: awarded for the use of the mobile fan club in collaboration with the athletics Web site
Third place (Bronze) - Radio Commercial: awarded for a basketball radio commercial which highlighted the importance of attending the game

"I would be remiss not mentioning those who helped contribute to our success," said White. "I feel fortunate to work with individuals who can take my ideas and create award-winning pieces.

"These promotional pieces were under the direction of the following individuals: graphic designer Kim Ziegler (Northwest University Relations), DJ Dan Engle (KKJO), Zach Dierks (DXD Sports) and Dan Kiser (2009 athletic marketing intern).

NACMA is the first organization of its kind to provide educational and networking opportunities; enhancement of acceptable operating standards and ethics; and establishment of the overall prestige and understanding of the profession of athletics marketing administrators. NACMA is administered by NACDA. Now in its 45th year, NACMA is the professional and educational association for more than 6,500 college athletics administrators at more than 1,600 institutions throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. More than 2,300 athletics administrators annually attend the NACDA Convention. Additionally, NACDA administers 11 professional associations that come under the umbrella of the Athletics Director.
