Hopkins To Succeed Martin as Northwest SWA

MARYVILLE, Mo.-Lori Hopkins, who has spent the last eight seasons as the assistant women's basketball coach at Northwest Missouri State University, will succeed Stephanie Martin as Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance and Student Services and Senior Women's Administrator. Northwest Director of Athletics Dr. Bob Boerigter made the announcement Friday.

"I am delighted that we have someone with experience, competence and skill on our coaching staff to move into this significant administrative position," said Boerigter. "Lori is well respected by all of her peers and I am confident she will continue to provide the level of service to that area that has been provided by Stephanie and her predecessors."

Martin has spent the last two years in the position, but is relocating to Dodge City, Kan., where her husband, Tyler, is an assistant football coach at Dodge City Community College. Hopkins will begin her duties May 9.

Hopkins spent two years as an assistant coach at Metropolitan State College of Denver before arriving in Maryville in 2002. Prior to that, she served successful stints as head girls coach at Rising City High School and Ansley High School, both in Nebraska.

"I am excited about the opportunity that Northwest has given me in accepting this position," said Hopkins. "The chance to take my career to the next level is something that I look forward to. I have big shoes to fill and look forward to continuing my service as a Bearcat."

Hopkins is a graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University and spent two seasons on the Prairie Wolves basketball team. Her 459 rebounds in those two years remain 10th in program records.

Alongside head coach Gene Steinmeyer, Hopkins and the Bearcats have won two MIAA tournament championships (2004, 2008) and appeared in three NCAA tournaments. Hopkins was promoted to Associate Head Coach prior to the 2008-09 season and has served in that capacity for the past two seasons.

A search to replace Hopkins as assistant women's basketball coach will begin immediately.
