Northwest Bearcats

Press Release

Dec. 4, 2009

"Green Friday" into "We See Green Saturday"

MARYVILLE, Mo.-It's Green Friday on the campus of Northwest Missouri State, which signals the start of the holiday season. It's also a perfect lead into a Bearcat tripleheader scheduled for Saturday.

Support coaches Steinmeyer and McCollum as their squads take to the hardwood against Washburn inside Bearcat Arena. The women tipoff at noon with the men to follow at 2 p.m.

Steinmeyer and his Bearcats (5-2, 1-0 MIAA) are coming off an upset of fifth-ranked Emporia State Wednesday. Gentry Dietz led Northwest with 20 points and Gabby Curtis added 15. Northwest led the two-time defending MIAA champions by 22 points in the second half.

McCollum has his team averaging 94 points per game. The Bearcat men are 4-1 overall and looking to draw even in the conference standings. Junior forward Elijah Allen leads four Bearcats averaging in double figures.

An NCAA national semifinal on the gridiron completes the trio. Northwest (12-1) looks to make it an unprecedented five straight trips to Florence, Ala., and the championship game. California (Pa.) (11-3) has reached the semifinals for the third year in a row, but has yet to cash in its ticket for Alabama.

The Bearcat Zone on the west side of the stadium opens its pregame festivities at 5:30 p.m. Gates to Bearcat Stadium will open at 6 p.m. The 7:30 p.m. kickoff will be broadcast live in high definition on CBS College Sports. Metro Sports in Kansas City will also pick up the broadcast.
