Athletic Training Dept. To Host Annual 5K Run/Walk/Roll
Results - click hereMARYVILLE, Mo.-The Northwest Athletic Training Department will hold its annual 5K Run/Walk/Roll race Saturday at 7 a.m. on the Northwest campus. The event helps raise money for the staff to attend the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) annual meeting. This year's meeting will take place in San Antonio, Texas, in the summer of 2009.
Participants may run, walk or roll during the race. Biking, rollerblading and strolling activities are welcome, although bikers and bladers must wear helmets.
The registration fee is $20 and includes a T-shirt. Registration takes place 30 minutes prior to the start of the race.
More than 30 local businesses have donated items and gift certificates as prizes. Bobby Bearcat will be on-site to cheer for and take pictures with the participants.
About the convention: The NATA convention provides Northwest students an opportunity to learn new skills that can be applied in the athletic training room. Students will interact with athletic training experts from around the world and discover the latest procedures and products used to assist athletes with injuries.
This past June, half of the Northwest staff members were recognized by the NATA and received awards and scholarships.
The Course: The 5K Run starts on College Ave (4th Street) right in front of the International Plaza. Runners will go east and take a left onto University Drive where they will take the sidewalk through campus that runs parallel to University Drive.
Next, runners will do the first loop by taking a left at Centennial Drive, a right at College Park Drive, a right at West 16th Street, a right at College Drive and end the loop with a right on Centennial Drive.
The second loop includes following Centennial Drive and taking a left on College Park Drive, taking a right in the parking lot south of the high-rise tennis courts, a right between the high rises and softball field, a right onto Northwest Drive and finishing the loop by taking a right onto College Park Drive.
The runners will stay on College Park Drive until taking a left at College Avenue (4th Street) and finishing the run at Circle Drive in front of Lamkin Activity Center.
