17 Bearcats Earn Academic All-MIAA Honors
MARYVILLE - Northwest Missouri State placed 17 student-athletes on the Academic All-MIAA Team, recognizing those athletes with both athletic accomplishments and academic success.
To be eligible, student-athletes must earn All-MIAA honors, either through a vote from the coaches (for baseball, basketball, football, women's soccer, tennis and volleyball) or through individual performances (for track and field and cross country). Athletes must also maintain a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average in at least two terms of attendance at Northwest.
This year marks an increase in Bearcats named Academic All-MIAA athletes, up from 15 in 2007. The women's track and field team led Bearcat teams with four athletes, followed by football and softball with three athletes each.
The Academic All-MIAA program was introduced in 1998 by then-Commissioner Ralph McFillen. A total of 190 athletes were recognized this year, continuing a three-year overall increase in honorees.
