Three Bearcats Claim MIAA Players of the Week
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Three Northwest Missouri State spring athletes claimed Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) Player of the Week, as announced by the league office today. Bill Disselhoff (Baseball), John Miles (Track/Field) and Vigit Sehgal (Men's Tennis) all had great performances in their respective sports to earn this honor.
Bill Disselhoff (Kansas City, Mo.) - MIAA Pitcher of the Week
The junior pitcher logged a complete game, seven inning, shutout and allowed three hits while striking out eight in a 10-0 run ruling of the Missouri Southern Lions (April 6). Disselhoff struck out at least one batter in all seven innings and did not walk a batter in his first career complete game.
A 2004 graduate of Riverside (Mo.)-Park Hill South High School, Disselhoff transferred to Northwest from the University of Missouri after his freshman season.
John Miles (Kansas City, Mo.) - MIAA Track Athlete of the Week
The sophomore sprinter set a school record in the 100 meter dash (10.48 seconds) and provisionally qualified for nationals. Miles also claimed the 200 meters with a time of 21.55, narrowly missing the provisional qualifiing standard.
His two event victories helped Northwest claim the team title at the Jock's Nitch Northwest Open on Saturday (April 5).
Vigit Sehgal (Faridabad, India) - MIAA Men's Tennis Player of the Week
The freshman standout went 4-0 last week, 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles, and now has a 13-4 singles record for the 2008 season. As the No. 2 singles player, Sehgal won a three game match, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4, against Paul Ravkin (Rockhurst) and helped the Bearcats claim a 6-3 win against the Hawks.
Three days later Sehgal, now ranked the No. 11 player in the region, moved up to No. 1 singles and faced the No. 10 ranked player in the region Peter Bracha (Truman). Sehgal sat down Bracha in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, and aided the Bearcats to a 6-3 conference victory.
In doubles actions, Sehgal and Gennari defeated Rockhurst 8-6 and Truman 8-3.
