SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Northwest Missouri State Head Athletic Trainer and Assistant Professor David "D.C." Colt will be inducted into the 2005 Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, announced today. Colt joins 13 other individuals and two teams to be honored in a formal ceremony on Sunday, Feb. 12 at the University Plaza Convention Center in Springfield, Mo.
"I am honored to be on the same list as the inductees this year," said Colt. "I didn't strive to be in this but it is nice to be recognized. This accomplishment is for everyone I worked with and all my students and graduate assistants.
"It is awesome to be in this prestigious group with a few other Bearcats. People such as Wayne Winstead (former women's basketball coach) and Ryland Milner (former men's basketball coach and administrator) are very special people."
For the past 24 years, Colt has held the position of Head Athletic Trainer and Assistant Professor at Northwest. Responsible for the health care of 390 athletes in 15 sports, he also devotes much of his time to the classroom teaching various college courses. Becoming a Certified Athletic Trainer in 1977, Colt also served as Assistant Athletic Trainer for Temple University in Philadelphia prior to joining the Northwest Missouri staff. He has volunteered his time over the years to the Missouri State High School Activities Association, serving as an athletic trainer for numerous football, basketball, and wrestling tournaments.
