No. 8 Football (3-1 / 2-0 MIAA)
- Northwest continues its four-game road stretch at Nebraska-Omaha Sept. 27. Kickoff has been moved to 1:30 p.m.
- The home team has won in the last eight meetings. The last time Northwest won at Nebraska-Omaha was the last time the two played a day game in Omaha, Neb. - Nov. 23, 1996. Northwest won 22-21 for its first postseason victory in program history.
- Northwest leads the league in scoring offense, passing offense, total offense, first downs and third-down conversions.
- The Bearcats claimed the Old Hickory Stick for the seventh straight year in a 49-0 shutout of Truman last weekend.
Volleyball (4-10 / 1-2 MIAA)
- Northwest ends a brief stint at home with Missouri Southern Sept. 23 before beginning a five-match road stretch, beginning at No. 17 Pittsburg State Sept. 26.
- The Bearcats went 1-2 last weekend, with both losses coming to Top 25 teams. Northwest defeated Fort Hays State 3-1 in its home opener Sept. 19.
- Katie Swenson earned her eighth double-double of the season against Emporia State Sept. 20. She's recorded a double-double in 23 of her 48 career matches.
Soccer (6-2 / 2-2 MIAA)
- Northwest plays Missouri Western for the second time in 2008, this time at home Sept. 25. The Bearcats defeated the Griffons 3-1 earlier this season in St. Joseph, Mo.
- Kira Lazenby tied the school shutout record against Missouri Southern Sept. 18, with her fourth shutout of the season. She's tied for the MIAA lead with Truman's Denise Childress.
- The Bearcats' school-record eight-game scoring streak ended against Southwest Baptist. Northwest limited the MIAA's highest-scoring offense to a single goal in the loss.
Men's Cross Country
- Northwest heads to Minneapolis for the Roy Griak Invitational Sept. 27. The men's 8K Division II race from the Les Bolstad Golf Course begins at 11:20 a.m.
- Zach Layton led the Bearcats at the Woody Greeno/Nebraska Invitational last weekend, finishing 34th overall and ninth among Division II runners.
- Layton's overall finish was the best at the Woody Greeno meet since graduate assistant Matt Pohren finished 14th overall in 2006. Pohren finished 24th overall as an unattached runner this year.
Golf
- Northwest continues its fall season at the William Jewell Invitational Sept. 25-26 from the Claycrest Golf Course.
- Jessica Feuerbach led the Bearcats at the Drury University Fall Shootout Sept. 8-9. She's averaging 90.9 strokes in her two-year career.
Men's Tennis
- Northwest hosts the ITA South Central Regional Tournament Sept. 26-28. Competition will take place at the High Rise and Frank Grube Courts on the first two days before centering on the Frank Grube Courts Sunday for finals Sunday.
- Regional champions in singles and doubles play advance to the ITA Small College Championships Oct. 16-19 in Mobile, Ala.
- It will be the 18th consecutive year Northwest has held either the men's or women's ITA regional.
- The Bearcats also travel to Graceland Sept. 23 for the only dual match of the season.
- The Bearcats competed at the Washburn Invitational Tournament last weekend. Daniel Usieto won the top singles flight, defeating Washburn's Simon Blondin 6-4, 1-0 after Blondin retired due to injury.
