No. 9 Football (2-1 / 1-0 MIAA)
- Northwest plays for possession of the Hickory Stick, the oldest traveling trophy in Division II, against Truman this Saturday in the first road contest of season.
- The Bearcats have won the last six meetings against the Bulldogs and 11 of the past 12.
- With a 42-35 victory against Missouri Western Sept. 13, Mel Tjeerdsma now stands alone in 10th in Division II's all-time win list.
- LaRon Council turned in a career day against Missouri Western, rushing for 144 yards and four touchdowns to help lead the Bearcats to a 42-35 victory.
Volleyball (3-8 / 0-0 MIAA)
- Northwest begins the MIAA season Wednesday at No. 2 Washburn before opening at home with Fort Hays State Friday and No. 16 Emporia State Saturday.
- Wednesday's match will be the MIAA opener for both teams. Head Coach Anna Tool is 2-0 in conference openers.
- The Bearcats went 1-2 at the Hilton Garden Inn Invitational, with Amber Ryan leading the Bearcats with 49 kills, 19 blocks and a .362 hitting percentage.
Soccer (5-1 / 1-1 MIAA)
- The Bearcats return home to host Missouri Southern Thursday before traveling to Southwest Baptist Saturday to continue the MIAA schedule.
- Head Coach Tracy Hoza is undefeated (5-0) against Missouri Southern when playing the Lions at home.
- Holly Ramaeker became the fourth Bearcat in program history to score three goals in a single game, doing so against Missouri Western Sept. 13. With five goals this season, Ramaeker's tied for eighth in season records.
- Krista Pollman moved up the career assist records with an assist in both games last week. She and Ramaeker are tied for second with seven career assists.
Men's Cross Country
- The Bearcats will be back on the course Saturday, heading to Lincoln, Neb., for the Woody Greeno/Nebraska Invitational. Races begin from Pioneer's Park at 10 a.m.
- Northwest won the Bearcat/Spoofhound Open Sept. 6 with a perfect team score of 15.
- T.R. Pursell finished first for Northwest and second overall on the four-mile course, running 21:23.1.
Women's Cross Country
- Northwest returns to the cross country course at the Woody Greeno/Nebraska Invitational Saturday in Lincoln, Neb.
- The Bearcats finished first of three teams in the Bearcat/Spoofhound Open Sept. 6 with a perfect score of 15.
- Angela Adams finished third overall in her collegiate debut to lead Northwest with 20:34.3
Men's Tennis
- Northwest begins the fall season at the Washburn Invitational Sept. 19-20. The Bearcats were scheduled to open at the Truman Invitational last weekend, but heavy rains forced cancellation.
- This weekend's tournament will be the only chance for competition before the men host the ITA South Central Regional Sept. 26-28.
- The only returning senior, Daniel Usieto ended the 2008 spring season 17-5 at No. 3 singles and had won nine of his last 10 matches.
Women's Tennis
- Northwest continues the fall season at the Washburn Invitational Sept. 19-20.
- The Bearcats won three flights at the Truman Invitational Sept. 5-6: Lina Gomez (1 and 2), Jordan Lipira (3 and 4) and Erica Leston (5 and 6). All three went 6-0.
