Baseball (16-22, 8-16 MIAA)

  • After a 15-game homestand, the Bearcats hit the road for 11 straight games starting at Truman Tuesday before traveling to Missouri Southern for a four-game series this weekend.
  • Trent Kohlstaedt moved into a tie for third in season records with two appearances against Nebraska-Omaha last weekend. Kohlstaedt needs five more appearances to tie Troy Newman's 26 appearances in 1985.
  • Bret Harvel collected his 12th career win in a 6.2-inning outing against No. 19 Nebraska-Omaha April 11. Harvel held the MIAA's top hitting team to two hits and one run.
  • Matt Stice and Bill Disselhoff have the longest active hitting streaks for Northwest (at seven and six games, respectively) and the two combined to hit .346 against the Mavericks, who are eighth in Division II in hits allowed.

Softball (12-31, 3-9 MIAA)

  • The home portion of the Northwest schedule wraps up this week with doubleheaders against Truman and No. 21 Missouri Western this weekend.
  • The Bearcats are only one game out of eighth in the MIAA standings. The top eight teams advance to the postseason tournament in Overland Park, Kan.
  • Amber Corkins provided the first walkoff win for the Bearcats this season with an RBI single to left field to break a 5-5 tie against Fort Hays State last Friday.
  • Tiffany Carter has 16 multi-RBI games this season, the most in program history. She stands third in season RBIs with 45 and needs five to break her own record of 49 set last season.

Women's Track and Field

  • Northwest will send 16 athletes to compete in the 81st Kansas Relays April 15-18. Emily Churchman will be the busiest of the 16 with four events: long jump, high jump, 100-meter hurdles and 4x400-meter relay.
  • The rest of the team will travel to the Central Missouri Mule Relays April 17.
  • Churchman improved his provisional qualifying mark in the heptathlon with 4,719 points at the Division II Challenge April 9-10 at Emporia State.
  • Audrey Bailey won the 400-meter hurdles and provisionally qualified with 1:00.98 at the Nebraska Invitational last weekend. Bridget Kleine also qualified with 56.25 in the 400-meter dash.

Men's Track and Field

  • Thirteen athletes will travel to Lawrence, Kan., for the 81st Kansas Relays at Memorial Stadium.
  • Sheldon Cook will compete in three events: long jump, 100-meter dash and 4x100-meter relay. He provisionally qualified in the 200-meter dash last weekend at Nebraska.
  • The rest of the squad will compete at the Central Missouri Mule Relays April 17.
  • It will be the final weekend before the start of the championship meets. Northwest hosts the MIAA Multi-Event Championships April 26-27.

No. 25 Men's Tennis (12-4, 3-1 MIAA)

  • Northwest wraps up the MIAA regular season schedule Tuesday in a rescheduled match with Truman. The Bearcats then take on Division I Missouri-Kansas City (coached by former Bearcat Kendall Hale) Wednesday before facing regional opponent No. 23 St. Edward's in Topeka, Kan., Friday for a top-25 matchup.
  • A win against the Bulldogs would claim the No. 2 seed in the MIAA tournament, which gets underway next weekend at the Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City.
  • Daniel Usieto is one singles win short of No. 50 in his career. He is 11-5 at No. 1 singles this season and is ranked No. 39 among Division II singles players this season.

Women's Tennis (11-3, 6-1 MIAA)

  • The Bearcats close out the MIAA regular season schedule Tuesday at Truman before embarking on a trip to Tahlequah, Okla., for three regional matches April 17-18.
  • A win against Truman will secure the No. 2 seed for the Northwest women in the MIAA postseason tournament. The Bearcats have won 10 MIAA titles.
  • Erika Leston is undefeated at No. 5 singles this season (14-0). Veronica Castilla, the MIAA Player of the Week last week, has won nine straight at No. 4 singles.

Golf

  • Northwest participates in the Park Invitational Monday and Tuesday before competing in the inaugural MIAA Championships April 19-21 at Shoal Creek Golf Club in Kansas City.
  • Jessica Feuerbach led the Bearcats to a runner-up finish at the Bulldog Classic April 3-4. She finished third on the course on day two and fifth in the two-day event with a 184.
  • Practice rounds for the MIAA tournament begin April 19 with 18-hole rounds on Monday and Tuesday. The Bearcats were one of three MIAA schools mentioned in the Golf World/NGCA national poll released March 9.
