Master of Science in Education Teaching

English Language Learners and ELL Certification

Northwest offers an add-on certification for ELL/ESOL. ELL Certification is recommended for mainstream elementary and secondary teachers who have English language learners in their classes and have completed a Masters degree in Education.

The Masters Degree in Teaching ELL is a 32 credit hour program. This degree is recommended for mainstream elementary and secondary teachers of English language learners who do not already have a Masters degree in a related field.

Admission Requirements

  • A minimum overall undergraduate GPA of 2.75 OR an overall undergraduate GPA of 2.50-2.74 AND a 3.25 GPA on eight hours of required graduate coursework at Northwest in the major program.
  • Submit valid teaching certificate (or statement of deficiencies)
  • Minimum combined score of 700 on the verbal and quantitative sections of the GRE
  • Pass writing assessment
  • Complete Approved Program Form with advisor
