Northwest courses taught in the high school are "dual enrollment" courses. Students earn regular university credit. Students must enroll through Northwest in order to received credit. The Admissions Office coordinates enrollment for these courses.
Northwest academic departments must be sure high school dual enrollment courses are placed on "In Progress" grading if the course spans more than one trimester. The green "In Progress" Grading Request Schedule Forms, showing beginning and ending dates of the courses, are to be submitted to the Registrar's Office no later than the second week of the trimester. Based on these forms, the IP grades are put on by the Registrar’s Office. The IP grade remains on the academic record until the entire course can be graded; the IP is removed when the final grade is assigned.
High school students follow the same timelines as those of on-campus students. For example, dropping a courses or withdrawing from all courses must be done according to University policy by the published dates. A change to a student's high school schedule does not automatically change the status at Northwest.
When final grade sheets are distributed, the Registrar's Office will not send out the IP grade sheets. They are held in the Registrar's Office until the departments request them for final grades when the courses are completed. Departments are to work with the high school faculty to collect grades. In some instances, the grade sheets will be sent to the instructor; in others, the grades may be collected by fax or email. The Northwest academic departments are responsible for collecting grades and submitting them to the Registrar's Office at Northwest, because Northwest faculty members are the instructors of record.
Occasionally, high school dual enrollment courses are for Fall only or Spring only. In those cases, the dual enrollment grades are handled the same as on-campus grades -- the campus instructor will have access to enter grades on CatPAWS, and the departments are responsible for collecting the final grades from the high school. If grades are not available, delayed (I) grades are to be assigned. When final grades are available, Northwest faculty are to use the Delay Removal Form to assign grades. The "I" grades remain on the academic record.
