Welcome to the Department of Natural Sciences
The Department of Natural Sciences is comprised of four disciplines - Biology, Chemistry, Geology and Physics. Our faculty and staff take pride in a student-focused curriculum and small class sizes that promote profession-based experience in the laboratory as well as relevant field work. Department faculty, classrooms, and laboratories for teaching and research, are housed in the Garrett-Strong Science Building and in the award-winning Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Over $3 million dollars has been invested to equip our laboratories with state-of- the- art instrumentation. The availability of this instrumentation along with faculty expertise allows us to train our students using the latest technology.
We strive for excellence and accessibility. Students have access to dedicated faculty members with diverse backgrounds and a passion for science and helping students. Through personalized instruction, academic advisement, career counseling, and mentoring, it is our goal to develop students both scientifically and professionally to allow them to succeed in their chosen career path. Northwest offers all the resources and facilities of a larger university, with the added advantage of the more personalized mentorship that comes from being at a smaller University. The Department would encourage all interested students to come for a visit, including sitting down one-on-one with a faculty member to discuss degree options and career paths.
