    Northwest welcomes new employees to begin spring 2018 trimester

    Northwest Missouri State University welcomes 16 new faculty and staff members as it begins its 2018 spring trimester.

    The new employees, who are those hired at Northwest after the fall trimester began, were recognized during the University’s annual fall All-Employee Meeting Jan. 3.

    The new employees, including their positions and departments, are listed below.

    Amber Baker is a custodian in Facility Services. Previously, she was self-employed as a face painter. She is a native of Maitland, Missouri, and a graduate of Nodaway-Holt Jr.-Sr. High School.

    Shane Baumgart joins Northwest as its landscape manager. He has worked in the landscaping and turf industry for 20 years, including the last 12 years managing and maintaining the grounds of the Clarinda Country Club.

    Jill Brown began her role in November as partnership coordinator for Northwest’s profession-based learning initiatives. Previously, she worked in external relations in the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where her role included legislative affairs, marketing, public relations and interacting with stakeholder groups. Prior to that, she worked in other roles at Nebraska, including career services, student recruitment and television. She has a bachelor’s degree in agricultural journalism and a master’s degree in higher education administration, both from Nebraska.

    Hanna Blount joins the Northwest staff as a financial assistance counselor in the Office of Financial Assistance. She has a master’s degree in social work from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and she earned her bachelor's degree in psychology at Northwest in 2014.

    Chris Collins is a custodian in Facility Services. A native of Chicago, he earned his bachelor’s degree in music at Northwest.

    Rich Comstock is a maintenance technician in Facility Services. He is a graduate of Tarkio High School and previously was employed at Peru State College in Nebraska.

    Melissa Cook is a data analyst in the Office of Institutional Research. Previously, she was an admissions coordinator at Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago. She earned her bachelor’s degree in theatre arts from California State University, Fullerton and her master’s degree in higher education with an emphasis on leadership and administration from Drexel University.

    Tom Dean is a maintenance technician in Facility Services. He is a graduate of Hillyard Technical Center and was previously employed by Niebuhr Heating and Cooling.

    Brandon Malone is a custodian in Facility Services. He previously was employed by Double R Improvements in Kansas City.

    Alisa Meyer returns to Northwest as a custodian with Facility Services. She was previously employed at Northwest as office manager at the Dean L. Hubbard Center for Innovation. She is a graduate of West Nodaway High School and resides in Burlington Junction. 

    Marilyn Jo Meyer joined Northwest in September as a custodian with Facility Services. She previously was employed at the Maryville Treatment Center and is a graduate of Bedford (Iowa) High School.

    Cherokee Marie Odle joined Northwest in September as a custodian with Facility Services. She previously was employed at Kawasaki Motors Manufacturing Company and is a graduate of Bedford (Iowa) High School.

    Margaret-Ann Pierre is the director of equity and accessibility in the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Most recently, she was a federal civil rights attorney, and she has held several positions in government service as a trial attorney and hearings magistrate. Early in her legal career, she served as assistant district attorney and assistant city attorney for the city of New Orleans and assistant attorney general for the state of Louisiana. She is licensed to practice in the state of Louisiana and the District of Columbia. She earned her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice at Dillard University in New Orleans and her juris doctor from Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

    Kayla Troutwine is a staff nurse at Wellness Services. Previously, she was employed at Mosaic Life Care’s Long Term Acute Care Hospital in St. Joseph. She received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Missouri Western State University.

    Keith Wiederholt is a custodian in Facility Services. He previously was employed at Benedictine Sisters of Perpetual Adoration in Clyde, Missouri. He resides in Conception Junction and is a graduate of Jefferson High School.

    Jacob Wood joined the Northwest staff in September as a hall director for the Office of Residential Life. He previously worked as a weekend reporter for KQTV in St. Joseph and a morning show host for KKWK Cameron Regional Radio. He earned his bachelor’s degree in mass media with a multimedia journalism emphasis at Northwest, where he also served as a resident assistant and assistant complex director.
