Students invited to study abroad, tour ‘Essence of Europe’

Northwest Missouri State University students are invited to discover the “Essence of Europe” through a special study abroad offering during the summer of 2018.

Northwest Professor of Music Dr. Ernest Kramer will lead an informational meeting to discuss the study abroad experience and its related coursework, “Survey of the Great Music Capitals of Europe,” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, in Room 244 of the Olive DeLuce Fine Arts Building.

The extensive 19-day tour of six countries, May 11-29, 2018, will provide students with a unique, in-depth opportunity to visit and become familiar with some of the greatest music centers in Western Europe. The music centers are located in London, Paris, Munich, Lucerne, Venice, Florence and Rome.

Under Kramer’s supervision, students will explore the most important museums, libraries, cathedrals and concert halls as well as the residencies and unique surrounding of important composers, including Handel, Purcell, Chopin, Liszt, Monteverdi, Palestrina, Gabrieli and Vivaldi.

Students attending the trip must also enroll in either Enjoyment of Music, Music Literature: Romantic through 21st Century, or a special topics course.

The cost of the trip includes Northwest tuition for three or six academic credits as well as an application fee of $50, program fee of $195 and a trip fee of $4,320, which is subject to change.

The trip fees include airfare, airport pickup and drop-off, hotel accommodations, daily breakfast and dinner meals, tour reservations and entrance fees, presenters and lecturers, a Eurostar Bullet Train from France to England, private coach bus transportation and course-related visits and performances.
