The Northland Innovation Campus, which serves as the home of Northwest Missouri State University-Kansas City, received the 2016 Excellence in Design Award from Design-Build Institute of America’s Mid-America Region (DBIA-MAR).

Hoefer Wysocki Architecture and McCownGordon Construction received the award during the 16th annual DBIA-MAR awards banquet Oct. 20.

Northwest, the city of Gladstone and North Kansas City Schools launched their unique partnership to build the Northland Innovation Campus in 2014. The 90,000 square-foot research and education complex, at 6889 North Oak Trafficway in Gladstone, Missouri, is designed to create synergies for K-12 programming while attracting business partners and students from the Kansas City metro and regional area.

The partners broke ground for the $20 million project with project developer CarrBaierCrandall Real Estate Group in May 2015. Northwest celebrated the opening of the Northwest-Kansas City location in August and has a 10-year lease agreement to occupy the top floor of the four story-building.

Northwest-Kansas City supports students enrolled in Northwest’s bachelor’s degree completion programs in business management, marketing, elementary education and special education. The University plans to add more completion programs for fall 2017 in computer science: mobile computing, communications: public relations, criminology, corporate recreation and applied health science.

Northwest-Kansas City also offers dual credit coursework through its partnership with Northland CAPS as well as professional education graduate degrees.
