Marcy Acosta Schumacher, a Northwest Missouri State University alumna and English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher at Renner Elementary School in Kansas City, Missouri, recently was named Teacher of The Year by the Park Hill School District.

Schumacher received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education with a minor in Spanish from Northwest in 1995 and began teaching in 1996. She joined the Park Hill School District in 1998 as an ESL teacher.

“Marcy just brings a great positive energy to our building, not only with her interaction with students but also with staff,” Renner Principal Dr. Melissa Hensley said. “She always has a smile on her face. She always is solution-focused and that’s one thing that I really appreciate about Marcy. She doesn’t get caught up in the obstacles that we have in education. She gets caught up in the solutions and how we can make things better for all kids.”
