Northwest Missouri State University has announced the appointment of Kathy Hart to director of library services and operations, effective July 1.
Hart will be responsible for providing strategic leadership for all functions of the B.D. Owens Library’s services and operations in collaboration with other academic units at Northwest. The full-service library provides state-of-the-art services and resources focused on exceptional patron service, responsiveness to student learning, and scholarly endeavors.
Hart will assume the library responsibilities of Dr. Leslie Galbreath, dean of academic and library services, who is retiring this summer.
“I am excited to see Kathy taking on this role,” said Dr. Greg Haddock, who recently was appointed associate provost for graduate studies and special programs and will supervise Hart in her new role. “She has served Owens Library in different roles that will add to her experience in leading her library colleagues.”
Hart has served as assistant director for library services at Owens Library since October 2012. In that role, she provides operational leadership for library services and has primary responsibility for collection development. She also led a reorganization and remodeling of the library’s second floor study spaces and collections, and she helped facilitate a remodel of the library’s computer lab to its Novel Grounds coffee house seating area.
Hart has served in various roles since joining the Owens Library staff in 2004 as a library generalist and course reserve specialist. She subsequently served as electronic serials specialist, electronic resource management information librarian and head librarian for access services.
Additionally, she served as the co-coordinator of Brick and Click, a national academic library conference hosted annually by Northwest, from 2006 to 2015. She serves on the MOBIUS Board of Directors and is a member of the MOBIUS Membership task force on value and impact.
Hart earned her bachelor’s degree from Northwest in office information systems and a master’s degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in library science. She also is pursuing a doctorate degree in educational leadership and policy analysis from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
“I am honored to be given the opportunity to serve Northwest as the director of library services and operations,” Hart said. “In this expanded role, I look forward to collaborating with colleagues and students to continue provision of exceptional library collections, research services, and learning environments.”
