Kevin C. Hawkins Jr., a police officer with Northwest Missouri State University’s Police Department, was honored Feb. 23 by the Parkway School District in Chesterfield, Missouri, with its Spirit of Excellence Award.
The annual awards ceremony honors high-achieving students and outstanding African American alumni of Parkway schools. Hawkins is a 2007 graduate of Parkway Central High School and was recognized for his activity and leadership in numerous organizations at the school.
Hawkins joined the University Police Department in 2010. He earned his bachelor’s degree in business management in 2013 and his master’s degree in higher education leadership in 2015, both from Northwest.
Additionally, he serves as chair of the Law Enforcement Subcommittee for the Missouri Department of Transportation and is a criminal justice instructor at Vatterott College. He is a mentor for President Barack Obama’s My Brothers Keeper initiative and volunteers with Special Olympics, Santa’s Cop and the Noyes Home for Children in St. Joseph, Missouri.
