Four Northwest Missouri State University students brought an early holiday gift last month to Fairmount Elementary School in Independence, Missouri.
The students – Caitlin Gritz, Katelyn Milligan, Tina Mann and Hieu Nguyen – are enrolled in Northwest-Kansas City’s elementary education completion program and collected more than 430 gently used books to donate to Fairmount.
Northwest’s Department of Professional Education partners with Fairmount to provide field and practicum experiences for Northwest students studying literacy and special education methods.
“They were generous enough to let us come and teach (at Fairmount), so we wanted to give back to them,” said Gritz, a junior elementary education major from Kansas City, Missouri. “They love to read, so I think they will really love these books.”
Northwest launched its elementary education completion program last fall to serve students who prefer to live in the Kansas City area and obtain a Northwest degree. The University also offers completion programs in business management, elementary education, and parks and recreation management at its Northwest-Kansas City facility.
