Auditions are 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, in the Mary Linn Auditorium at the Ron Houston Center for the Performing Arts. Callbacks are 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14.
Interested students must sign up on the theatre callboard, located in the backstage area on the Ron Houston Center’s first floor, adjacent to the scene shop and basement staircase.
Auditioning students should prepare two contrasting monologues no longer than two minutes. Cold readings will be provided for students who do not have prepared monologues.
Students also must prepare one song no longer than two minutes. Song selections may not be from “Legally Blonde.” An accompanist will be provided for students with sheet music; a sound system will be available for students who prefer to play accompaniment music on CD, phone, laptop or another device. Sheet music must be in the appropriate key.
Northwest will stage “Legally Blonde: The Musical” April 7-9 as its biennial student musical. The production combines the collaborative efforts of Professor of Music Dr. Brian Lanier and Assistant Professor of Theatre Katheryn Bilbo.
The international award-winning musical based on the adored movie follows pink-loving, wealthy sorority president Elle Woods as she enrolls in Harvard Law School in an effort to win back her ex-boyfriend. After discovering her surprising aptitude and appreciation for law, she uses her new-found skills to defend a workout-queen in a murder trial, defying the odds and proving that pink can save the day.
