Northwest Missouri State University undergraduate students are invited to submit their best work from 2015 and earn a chance to win prizes by submitting work for the B.D. Owens Library’s Undergraduate Library Research Awards.
All application materials must be received before 5 p.m. Jan. 29, 2016. Papers or projects should be five to 30 pages, not counting the required pages citing references.
Papers are evaluated by a panel of Northwest faculty members and librarians on criteria that includes the use of scholarly resources, variety of relevant sources, critical thinking and accurate citation skills.
Wal-Mart gift certificates will be awarded to the authors of the top three papers or projects; group project winners will split the certificate. Prizes are worth $200 for first place, $150 for second place and $100 for third place.
Winning papers also are entered in the Owens Library’s digital Undergraduate Library Research Award collection, which available through the library catalog.
Award recipients and faculty sponsors will be honored at the Northwest Awards and Recognition Ceremony April 11, 2016 at 3:30 p.m. in the J.W. Jones Student Union Ballroom.

B. D. Owens Library is a service-oriented library designed to meet the varied learning and research needs of Northwest students, faculty and staff. The library collection and services support scholarly research and provide current information that promotes student competencies concerning lifelong learning, critical thinking, communication and research.
The library’s website provides access to journal titles and eBooks available to students, faculty and staff through the library’s robust catalog. The library houses books, documents, bound periodicals and electronic periodicals. Through the EBSCOhost platform, eBooks are available with additional access to items through the statewide catalog maintained by the MOBIUS consortium of libraries. Interlibrary loan service is available for materials not available within the state.
Course-focused guides and tutorials along with reference and citing assistance also are available. Reference service includes a broad array of delivery methods, including walk-in, by appointment, email and phone. The library’s popular “Help with Research” program provides students, faculty and staff the opportunity to receive personalized research assistance on a specific topic.
