    Northwest SBTDC director Lobina visits with SBA administrator

    Rebecca Lobina, regional director of the Small Business Technology Development Center (SBTDC) at Northwest Missouri State University recently met with Maria Contreras-Sweet, administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), while Contreras-Sweet visited the Kansas City District Office to discuss district issues and SBA initiatives. 

    Lobina was invited to represent the Northwest SBTDC during the meeting at the district office and share insights. The SBTDC is a resource partner and is funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the SBA.

    Contreras-Sweet is the 24th administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration and serves on President Obama’s cabinet. She is a successful business executive, entrepreneur and state cabinet official. Throughout her career, she has been a champion of diversity, access to capital and equal opportunity for all Americans

    The Northwest SBTDC, during fiscal year 2014, helped create 13 businesses. Additionally, SBTDC-assisted businesses created or retained 231 jobs in northwest Missouri, experienced an increase in sales of $15 million, and received loans and investments totaling nearly $38 million.

    With offices in Maryville, St. Joseph and Chillicothe, the Northwest SBTDC serves an 18-county area in northwest Missouri and focuses on economic development assistance for businesses with fewer than 500 employees. It provides individual business counseling to small business owners and individuals, coordinates and conducts research related to technical and general small business problems, and conducts conferences and workshops on topics of interest to small business owners.
