DeLuce Art Gallery to feature 5 lecturers, exhibits during 2015-2016

By Tiona McKinney, media relations assistant

Northwest Missouri State University’s Department of Fine and Performing Arts has announced a series of art exhibitions and lecturers appearing at the Olive DeLuce Fine Arts Building during the 2015-2016 academic year.

The exhibits, which are free and open to the public, begin with a lecture by featured artists on the first Monday of each month. A reception and galley viewing follows the lectures, which begin at 7 p.m. in the Charles Johnson Theater at the DeLuce Fine Arts Building.

The Olive DeLuce Art Gallery is open to the public from 2 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays. Appointments also are available by calling the Department of Fine and Performing Arts at 660.562.1326.

The artists and exhibits showcased in the DeLuce Art Gallery throughout the academic year are as follows:

This year’s lineup includes professional artists who offer cultural perspectives and provide students and community members with opportunities to enjoy unique artwork without traveling to a metropolitan museum.

“It is important for students to learn and engage with what is going on in the art world,” said Bobby Tso, a Northwest assistant professor of art who also coordinates DeLuce Art Gallery exhibits. “Many of us do work that is conceptual that no one can understand but others do work that is approachable. It is important for people to come and support the art gallery because students and faculty work very hard on the works presented.”

The Department of Fine and Performing Arts and the Olive DeLuce Art Gallery annually present contemporary programming that represents traditional and experimental visual arts disciplines. For more information, visit
