Northwest Missouri State University music ensembles are conducting auditions for the 2015-2016 academic year, and any interested student is invited to participate.
Northwest students participating in music ensembles may receive academic or activity credit.
“Students often feel that they need to be music majors or on a music scholarship in order to participate. Nothing could be further from the truth,” said Bill Richardson, professor of music. “In many instances, the great majority of students participating in ensembles are non-music majors.”
Dates and locations of Northwest music ensembles and auditions are provided below with links to more information.
Auditions begin Sunday, Aug. 30, and conclude Tuesday, Sept. 1. Auditions are in the Olive DeLuce Fine Arts building, office 106-A, with the exception of drum set and vibes, which will take place in Fine Arts room 116 or the percussion room in the lower level. A sign-up sheet for jazz auditions will be posted Thursday, Aug. 27, outside of Fine Arts rehearsal room 116. Click here for more information.
The Northwest Jazz Ensemble rehearses at noon on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The Northwest Studio Jazz Ensemble rehearses at 1 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.
Students are not required to audition to participate in the Studio Jazz Ensemble but should visit Dr. Bill Richardson at Fine Arts office 106-A or email him at firstname.lastname@example.org, to declare interest.
Any student interested in becoming a member of Tower Choir or the Madraliers, which becomes the Celebration show choir during the spring trimester, must audition. Auditions for both ensembles will occur simultaneously in different locations and with slightly different procedures.
Audition sign-up sheets are posted for Tower Choir at Fine Arts Building office 230 and for the Madraliers/Celebration at Fine Arts office 231. Students should sign up for a 10-minute audition time as soon as they arrive on campus.
The University Chorale is a large choral organization open to all students at Northwest. There is no audition requirement for membership in the Chorale.
Preliminary auditions are scheduled during the times below. Hours are subject to change prior to start of auditions. Click here for more information.
Auditions for the fall Wind Symphony are Saturday, Aug. 29, and Sunday, Aug. 30. A sign-up sheet is posted at Fine Arts room 220.
Auditions for the fall 2015 Symphony Orchestra are Tuesday, Sept. 1, beginning at 6 p.m. in Fine Arts room 116. A sign-up sheet is posted at Fine Arts room 116.
