The Office of Campus Activities at Northwest Missouri State University has changed its name to better reflect its revised mission to develop lifelong leaders through enhanced academic learning and meaningful co-curricular experiences.
Effective this week, the area is now known as the Office of Student Involvement. Staff members hope the change dispels the misperception that the office only oversees campus activities and more accurately reflects all of the office’s programs, which include leadership programming, Greek life, service and engagement, special events and the Student Activities Council.
“Our office does much more than provide activities for students to attend,” said Brooke McBride, director of student involvement. “As a result, we believe the name of Office of Student Involvement is more reflective of our mission, values and the opportunities we provide for student success and development.”
As part of the change, Northwest’s volunteer services division is known now as service and engagement and relocated from the Intercultural International Center to the Office of Student Involvement. Operating under the umbrella of the Office of Student Involvement will allow the service and engagement division to better share its resources and offer additional support to students and organizations.
Other programming that originates from the Office of Student Involvement includes Alternative Spring Break, Bearcat Leadership Training, the Exemplary Leadership Academy, Family Weekend and Homecoming.
Additionally, the office serves as a hub for Northwest’s more than 150 student organizations and a multitude of student-led events and programs. Organizations supervised within the Office of Student Involvement include Northwest’s 18 Greek fraternities and sororities and the Student Activities Council.
