March 30, 2015
Northwest Missouri State University welcomes the St. Louis Ballet on Monday, April 13, for the final performance of its 2014-2015 Encore performance series.
The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Ron Houston Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets may be purchased between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Student Services Center on the first floor of the Administration Building or online.
The program, “Love is in the Air,” will feature the company with smooth and romantic melodies such as George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue.” Dancers in evening dresses and tuxedos will sway and plunge to the familiar melodies with choreography by Francis Patrelle. Emery LeCrone, who has created choreography for Guggenheim Museum’s acclaimed Works & Process performing arts series and New York City Ballet’s New York Choreographic Institute, choreographs the romantic ballet.
The company, made up of 25 internationally acclaimed dancers, is directed by Gen Horiuch, a former New York City principal dancer. The company is the only recognized professional resident ballet company in the St. Louis region and performs 20 times during the course of a year.
The St. Louis Ballet also is affiliated with the St. Louis Ballet School that welcomes more than 300 young dancers from ages 2 and up. They offer classes in ballet, tap, jazz, and modern dance, along with piano and violin lessons. For more information visit www.stlouisballet.org.
