Recreation Center brings back track and field day at Northwest

The Northwest Missouri State University Recreation Center will host Intramural Track and Field Day Saturday, April 11, for University students and employees interested in participating.

Events during the day will include shot put, discus and long jump as well as running events the 100-meter, 200-meter, 400-meter, 800-meter and 1,600-meter runs and the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relays. Each event will have a men’s and women’s division, and the relays will have co-rec divisions.

All students and employees are eligible to participate up to three running events and two field events with a total of four total events. Shot put and discuses will be regulation high school weight, and no spikes longer than ¼ of an inch will be allowed.

Northwest students and employees may sign up for Track and Field Day through www.imleagues.com. When creating an account on imleagues, registrants must use their Northwest email addresses. Registration ends at midnight Tuesday April 7.

Participation is free and competition will begin at noon Saturday, April 11, at Bearcat Stadium.

Hannah Harmon, a graduate assistant at Northwest’s Student Recreation Center, she and other graduate assistants came up with the idea for the Track and Field Day while cleaning a storage room recently. They uncovered an intramural track and field record board with most recent record set in 1991.

“The graduate assistants decided it would be fun to see if any current Northwest students could break the records,” Harmon said, adding the record board can be viewed at the Student Recreation Center.
