Northwest Missouri State University faculty members Dr. Loren Butler and Dr. Matt Symonds were honored for their instruction and service at the Missouri Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (MOAHPERD) Convention Nov. 14-16.
Butler, an associate professor of health and physical education, received the Dr. Robert M. Taylor Honor Award, which is presented annually to outstanding teachers and administrators in physical education, health, recreation and dance who have served MOAHPERD. Recipients must have held a membership in MOAHPERD and AAHPERD for five years and be a current member, in addition to serving as an elected officer, committee member, workshop presenter or convention program presenter. Butler is a past division chair and has presented numerous workshop and convention programs.
Symonds, an associate professor of health and physical education, received the Kathleen Kinderfather Award. The recipient is selected based on exhibiting honor, dignity, integrity and exemplary contributions to the Missouri Association for MOAHPERD and the profession. In any given year, only one individual may receive the award. Symonds is a past division chair, regular program presenter, past recipient of the Robert M. Taylor Honor Award, a recipient of the MOAHPERD Scholar Award, and served as 2010 MOAHPERD president. He currently serves the association as treasurer.
