By Alexandra Mortallaro, media relations assistant

Four Northwest students will be honored at the annual Missouri Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (MOAHPERD) fall convention with Major of the Year awards.

Northwest students receiving the awards are Treigh Crouch, a senior physical education major from Sidney, Iowa; Darin Trautman, a senior physical education major from Country Club, Mo.; Sierra Greenlee, a senior health major from Mendon, Mo.; and Phillip ‘Kolton’ Cline, a senior corporate recreation and wellness major from Pleasant Hill, Mo.

Students will be recognized during a banquet Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Lodge of Four Seasons in Lake Ozark, Mo.

“These students are some very good examples of future professionals, teachers, coaches and all around quality individuals,” said Dr. Loren Butler, associate professor of health and physical recreation.

MOAHPERD presents the awards each year to students attending colleges and universities offering majors in physical education, health, recreation, dance, exercise science and kinesiology. The award honors outstanding future professionalism and focuses attention on the accomplishments of its recipients.

“I thank God for the incredible faculty here that put me into this position,” Cline said. “Being a state-level award, I think it will be hard for agencies to ignore during the interviewing process.”

Receiving the honor provides a boost to students looking for career opportunities.

“This award will help me in the future by showing future employers and other educators that I am dedicated and passionate about teaching physical education,” Trautman said.

The mission of MOAHPERD is to support, encourage, and provide assistance to promote programs in health, leisure and movement-related activities for the enrichment of human life. For more information about MOAHPERD, visit
