Northwest Missouri State University welcomes a unique string band as the next performer of its 2014-2015 Encore performance series.
Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem, a group of four skilled singers and instrumentalists, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, in the Ron Houston Center for the Performing Arts.
Tickets may be purchased between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Student Services Center on the first floor of the Administration Building or online. Adult tickets range from $23 to $25 and children’s tickets range from $13 to $15. Northwest student tickets are free.
For more than a decade, Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem have been brewing their own blend of American roots music. Musically, the band is a melting pot of American folk melody and style, “a mini music festival of different styles filtered through the vibrant interaction of all four players.”
Gleefully drawing from a variety of traditions, they hang a Georgia Sea Islands song on a New Orleans groove. They sneak an Afro-Cuban Cajun groove under an Irish fiddle tune. Leonard Cohen gets clawhammer banjo, Springsteen gets bluegrass harmonies and their own eclectic originals – about spirituality, cancer, red-haired boys, love, midlife and more – fit seamlessly with the classics.
“Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem will expose Northwest students and the community to over 150 years of American music through their unique acoustic music performance,” said Anthony Maly, Northwest campus activities coordinator.
