The Northwest Missouri State University Board of Regents during its regular meeting Thursday, July 31, heard a report of the University’s state appropriation requests for fiscal year 2015 in addition to approving graduation candidates for degrees and faculty appointments for the upcoming academic year.
The University celebrated its summer commencement ceremony Thursday evening and awarded 231 degrees, consisting of 146 undergraduate degrees, 70 graduate degrees and 15 specialist in education degrees.
Fall classes begin Aug. 25 at the University. The start of the fall trimester will be preceded with Northwest’s annual Advantage week, Aug. 21-24, which gives first-year students opportunities to meet people, learn more about the campus and get settled into their new environment.
Vice President of Finance Stacy Carrick presented the appropriation requests to the Board, explaining the requests are submitted annually to the Missouri Department of Education, though they are not always funded. Northwest’s requests this year include operational funding to increase the University’s core budget; to develop its sustainable agriculture program; and for the Missouri Academy of Science, Mathematics and Computing.
Northwest’s requests also include a variety of capital items such as electrical system upgrades; window and roof repairs and replacements; heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems; and sprinkler systems.
The Board of Regents is responsible for sound resource management of the University and determining general, educational and financial policies.
