Governor appoints Dixon as Northwest student regent

Gov. Jay Nixon has announced the appointment of Ve’Shawn Dixon as the student representative on the Northwest Missouri State University Board of Regents.

Dixon’s term will end Dec. 31, 2015, or until his successor is appointed. He succeeds Ashton Raffety, whose term expired.

Dixon is a Kansas City, Kan., native and a 2012 graduate of Sumner Academy of Arts and Science.  At Northwest, he is a junior political science major and criminal justice minor. He serves as president of the Minority Men’s Organization, and he is a member of the Speaking Bearcats forensics team and the Political Science Club. After completing his degree, Dixon hopes to work in law or public service.

The student regent is a non-voting member of the Board of Regents. Dixon's appointment must be confirmed by the Missouri Senate.

The Board of Regents develops policy and has responsibility for sound resource management of the University, and determines general, educational and financial policies.
