March 10, 2014
Northwest Missouri State University ceramics students and art faculty are again giving back to their community by hosting the sixth annual Empty Bowls fundraiser.
This year’s event is 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 14, at The Station, located on the Northwest campus near the high-rise residence halls.
The event raises awareness of hunger in the Maryville community and raises funding to help combat the problem. All proceeds from the event are donated to the Ministry Center Food Pantry.
The event features a variety of handmade ceramic bowls and cups produced by Northwest students and faculty specifically for the event.
At the fundraiser, each guest may choose one bowl – and have the option of adding a cup – to be used for their soup supper. Local businesses annually donate food for the event, and this year’s menu features food from HyVee, The Mandarin, Simply Siam, A&G, Happy Garden, Benelli’s Pizzeria, My Favorite Muffin and Northwest Campus Dining.
At the end of the meal, students wash guests’ bowls for them to take home.
Prices are $15 for one bowl and a meal, or $25 for one bowl, cup and a meal. Guests should pay by cash or with a check payable to The Ministry Center.
