Northwest Missouri State University is getting into the holiday spirit and inviting students to participate in the third annual “Light Up the Halls” competition.
Northwest’s Residence Hall Association is asking students to bring holiday lights with them when they return to campus from the University’s Thanksgiving break. RHA encourages on-campus residents to decorate their windows in an attempt to make their hall the brightest on campus.
A panel of judges, consisting of RHA members and staff, will tour the campus at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, to review the displays. Light displays are judged on creativity and the number of windows lit. The winning hall will receive $100 to go to its programming board.
Assistant Director of Residential Life Meghan Davis hopes the event will continue to grow.
“The halls are really excited about the event this year, and we hope that this becomes an ongoing tradition for our campus,” Davis said.
In addition to the “Light Up the Halls” contest, Northwest and the Jasinski family will host the fifth annual Holiday Tree Lighting on the lawn of the Thomas J. Gaunt House at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday Dec. 3.
