Applications are now available for students interested in serving as the student regents on Northwest Missouri State University’s Board of Regents.
The student regent is a non-voting member of the Board of Regents appointed for a two-year term. The student regent’s duties include attending Board meetings and providing input on behalf of Northwest students. Student regents also have opportunities to work closely with University administration on institutional issues.
The term of Northwest’s current student regent, Ashton Raffety, a junior business economics major from Drexel, expires Dec. 31.
The Board of Regents serves as the governing body for Northwest. Its nine members, which include the student regent, are appointed by the governor and approved by the Missouri Senate. The Board develops policy and has responsibility for sound resource management of the University, and determines general, educational and financial policies.
Interested students must be a Missouri resident, a full-time Northwest student with at least two years left at the University as of Jan. 1, 2014, and be in good standing with the University.
Applications are available at the Student Senate office in the Student Engagement Center on the second floor of the J.W. Jones Student Union. Completed applications are due by 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23, in the Student Senate office.
Student Senate’s Committee on Student Affairs interviews applicants for the position and selects up to four candidates for an interview with Northwest Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Matt Baker and President Dr. John Jasinski as well as Student Senate leadership and Raffety. Finally, the names of up to three finalists are submitted to the Governor’s office for appointment. The Governor’s office may choose to interview the finalists.
For more information, contact Raffety at firstname.lastname@example.org.
