The “Bearcat Coaches Show,” airing live from 6 to 7 p.m. each Thursday from Carson’s Sports Grille, is ready to return for its second season.
The weekly show, broadcast by KXCV-KRNW, the flagship station of the Bearcat Radio Network, returns Thursday, Sept. 12, at Carson’s, located at 310 N. Main St. in Maryville. The Bearcat Radio Network’s veteran broadcast team of Northwest alumni John Coffey and Matt Gaarder will host each week’s show.
All fans are invited to join KXCV-KRNW for the show, which features interviews with Northwest Missouri State University coaches and student-athletes. A special question-answer session also allows fans to talk directly with the coaches, and a segment titled “Meet Our Bearcat Student-Athletes” is a highlight each week. Fans also have chances to win prizes and leave with giveaways, courtesy of The Student Body in Maryville.
Rodney Harris, general manager of KXCV-KRNW, said the show gives Bearcat fans an opportunity to learn more about Northwest coaches and players while matching their names with their faces, academic endeavors and interests.
“Last year’s show was a super success,” Harris said. “We averaged 98 guests each week and were able to provide the greatest fans in Division II the opportunity to hear from all of our coaches and some of our wonderful student-athletes.”
The first week’s show will feature football coach Adam Dorrel and cross country coach Scott Lorek with Northwest Director of Athletics Mel Tjeerdsma. Nolan Zimmer and Anne Herbert, of the Northwest Cross Country teams and top finishers from the team’s first home meet, will be the featured student-athletes of the week.
A tentative schedule of coaches for this fall’s shows appears below. Featured student-athletes will be determined on a weekly basis. All guests are subject to change.
The Bearcat Radio Network broadcasts every Bearcat football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball game, home or away. KXCV, the award-winning National Public Radio affiliate broadcasting from the Northwest campus, has served as the flagship station of the Bearcat Radio Network since its launch in 1999.
With 100,000 watts behind it, KXCV-KRNW is the most powerful station in the region and reaches parts of four states – Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa. Since its inception in 1971, KXCV also has served as a training ground for Northwest students interested in broadcasting, and serving listeners while training students remains foremost in the radio station’s mission.
